I rolled over, one arm dropping off the edge of the small bed and felt soft, curly hair. Groggily, I ran my fingers through it and massaged gentle circles on Desiree’s back.

Then Desiree appeared from behind, stood on my shoulder and licked my cheek.

If Desiree was in the bed with me then that meant…

I jerked my arm back onto the bed and my eyes widened in horror.

“Don’t stop now,” Skip grumbled. “I was almost back asleep.”

“Ugh,” I groaned. Scanning the bed, I grabbed a tiny pillow and threw it at his head. “I thought I was petting Desiree,” I told him.

Skip only smirked and tucked the pillow underneath his cheek and laid back down on the floor staring at me.

“You were supposed to be sleeping up front in the reclining seat like you said.” I mumbled, refusing to make eye contact.

“It wasn’t as comfortable for my back as I had hoped,” he admitted.

“What time is it?” I asked.

“Almost five.”

I sighed. “We might as well get going, I guess. We have what, another ten or twelve hours to drive?”

“Sixteen.”

My eyes nearly bugged out of my head. “Sixteen?” I yelped.
